🌐 Brainheaters Website

🗂 Overview

The Brainheaters Website is the digital gateway for thousands of engineering students looking for exam-focused study material. Originally designed as an information portal, the website struggled with confusion between plans, high bounce rates, and unclear content structure.

The goal was to redesign the entire website experience to:

  • Improve clarity of plans (Free vs Lifetime)

  • Make navigation frictionless for new users

  • Build trust instantly

  • Increase conversions during peak exam season

  • Support 20+ universities and 100+ subjects efficiently


🎯 Problem Statement

“Students were confused. What’s free? What’s paid? Where do I start? Can I trust this? Am I on the right page?”

The previous website suffered from:

  • ❌ Lack of plan clarity (especially the Free Plan for F.E. students)

  • ❌ Weak storytelling about Brainheaters’ legacy and trust

  • ❌ A messy flow from landing → semester → purchase

  • ❌ Cluttered UI with too many decisions upfront

👥 Target Users

🎓 1. Engineering Students

  • F.E. (First-Year) students — unsure about what they get free

  • S.E./T.E./B.E. students — overwhelmed with project + exams

  • Looking for filtered notes and quick help

  • Lack trust in online resources, want to “see it work first”

💳 2. Lifetime Buyers

  • Parents/Students ready to invest once for all semesters

  • Want to know: What’s included? Is it worth it?


🔍 Research & Inputs

We conducted:

  • Interviews with 20 students from different years

  • Screenshots and chats from WhatsApp support

  • Feedback from Instagram replies on pricing confusion

  • Analytics from older website (bounce rate, scroll depth, exit points)

Key insights:

  • Most F.E. students exited on the pricing page due to unclear "Free" vs "Paid"

  • Students wanted sample previews before trusting the content

  • Majority used mobile — needed a mobile-first redesign


🧠 UX Strategy

I created a funnel-based journey for the website:

  1. Storytelling-based Landing Page

  2. Clear Call-to-Actions (Choose your Semester)

  3. Semester → Subject → Preview or Plan Lock

  4. Pricing Page with simplified comparison

  5. Upgrade to Lifetime = final CTA

We focused on reducing friction at every step:

  • Plan explainer + sample previews

  • Visible trust elements (student count, testimonials, legal terms)

  • Mobile-first speed & tap-friendly UI


🎨 Design Principles

  • Clarity over creativity – Focused on layout that answers "What’s in it for me?"

  • Trust-based layout – Testimonials, plan comparisons, legal footer

  • Mobile-first design – Big tap areas, vertical navigation

  • Consistent branding – Used core Brainheaters color palette, fonts, and tone

🧩 Special UX Decisions

🔄 Free vs Lifetime Clarification Block

A block added after semester selection:

“You are in First Year. Your access is 100% FREE. No payment needed. Just login and start.”

If not FE:

“Upgrade to Brainheaters Lifetime once — unlock everything till final year.”

👀 Content Preview Teasers

We introduced 2 sample notes / questions visible to everyone before login or upgrade. This reduced bounce rate and increased trust.

📶 Speed Optimizations

Removed unnecessary Wix animations, optimized image delivery, compressed preview files → improved page load time by 40%.


📈 Results & Impact

  • 🟢 Bounce rate dropped by 58%

  • 🟢 Lifetime plan upgrades increased by ~32% post-redesign

  • 🟢 87% of new F.E. users accessed their semester without asking for help

  • 🟢 Reduced customer support questions about “what’s free” by over 70%

  • WhatsApp API (For joining the community instantly)


🔥 What I’m Proud Of

  • Taking a confusing platform and making it crystal clear

  • Creating a site that respects students’ time, device, and stress

  • Making the conversion flow work for 1st-years and final-years

  • Building a funnel that scales with zero paid marketing


🧠 Final Reflection

The Brainheaters Website redesign taught me that clarity is the most powerful design principle. By respecting the user’s state of mind — anxious, time-bound, mobile-first — we created an experience that delivers value before it even asks for money.

It’s more than just a site. It’s a digital front door to a student revolution.
