Converted an undefined concept into structured requirements, phased roadmap priorities, and a clear MVP strategy.
At kickoff, the product vision was directionally strong but undefined—no finalized requirements, flows, or technical constraints. I:
Documented functional and behavioral requirements from stakeholder sessions
Defined primary user types and incentive models
Structured feature clusters into phased roadmap releases
Mapped core flows to reduce ambiguity before engineering execution
Due to aggressive timelines, we intentionally skipped low-fidelity wireframes and moved directly into high-fidelity prototypes to accelerate clarity and decision-making.
Walkabout
Walkabout is a hyperlocal community app connecting residents with local businesses and curated neighborhood events. On Walkabout people discover, host, and participate in curated local experiences. I joined at inception and partnered directly with the Founder and Co-founder to define, design, and ship the product from scratch.
I joined Walkabout at very early stage. As the first designer, led Walkabout from idea-stage ambiguity to a 17,000+ member hyperlocal community platform in San Diego.

The real problem wasn’t the absence of events — it was the absence of a cohesive system that transformed local vibrancy into consistent community participation. The challenge for Walkabout was to convert hyperlocal density into meaningful engagement:
Walkabout was rooted in highly active neighborhoods in San Diego — particularly vibrant pockets such as North Park, Little Italy and near by neighborhoods. These areas are dense with independent stores, restaurants, art spaces, pop-ups, and frequent cultural events. On the surface, the community energy was already there.

It will show the basic information about the user, it can be filled with many user related activity etc.
User can locate their neighborhood and accordingly feeds, events, places, people and loyalty program will be loaded. (it is one of the three factor that affects the contents)
Feeds are sorted into 4 different types as visible, it will load only most important, highly curated feed from social media, citizenapp, nextdoor etc.
News - Loads all the highly curated happenings, news and other information
Events - Loads all the near by events so that residents will not miss out any events
Places - Loads all the near by places to explore, famous places other residents recommends etc. this helps residents to discover nearby
People - Loads all the people in the neighborhood with at least 1 similar lifestyle match and also other residents with their basic information visible - Name, Apt No, Lifestyle & Bio

This is the notification center which loads all notifications and user can perform actions on each of them.
User can perform various actions on each notification based on the (notification content & source)
Examples:
Add in schedule, I am Going, I am interested, Take me there, Notify others, Share to my feed etc..
Notifications will be of different types which based on contents & user’s lifestyle. Some Examples are:
20 Residents will get FREE Vaccum & Garden service on Saturday 6:00 PM
Action: User Register and Add in Schedule to see the status if 20 opted-in the service will be provided. (Check Zumba example)
A place is nearby and you can use points to buy some food for FREE
Action: Directly open Map and navigate.
Highly curated notifications will have personalized Title and a short description visible in the Top-Sheet until user tap on notification or go to all notifications

Eg: I am Foodie but I would love to see where are all residents going & may be I want to join some of them in a Social work Event, I can join them irrespective of my lifestyle choices.

These are basically the actiity we would like users to do inorder to ean points, Here we can target “Giving awas” to the community activities and they get bonus points.
These actions would be quickly doable but impactful
These area will load all the different kind of offers, Deals, activities etc near by neighborhood. User Earns points from every Deal.
Eg: Buy a Starbucks Cold Coffee across street today only - When you get this deal and buy Coffee you earn some points.
These area will load nearby places or options to spend their points. When you click on a specific store all the list of available deals will load for that store and it will have options to get a coupon codes or Barcode to scan at store or order online etc.
Direct Prototype-Led Validation
Used high-fidelity prototypes as thinking tools and validation assets to shape the product with real resident feedback.
I designed interactive prototypes early in the process to:

MVP Launch: Local Engagement Engine
Designed and launched the first MVP focused on local engagement and reward-based participation.
We released the first MVP with core features including:
This phase also involved partnering with local businesses, aligning digital incentives with real-world rewards. The UX had to balance simplicity for residents with operational clarity for store partners.
The MVP validated early traction and community interest.
This rapid iteration loop reduced product risk before MVP launch.
We conducted interviews with local residents using these prototypes. Feedback revealed friction in discovery, unclear incentives, and onboarding confusion.
Based on insights gathered from these sessions, I iterated on:

Scaled the product with exclusive events, ticketing, subscriptions, and advanced payment flows.
As the platform matured, we expanded beyond store engagement into curated Walkabout-exclusive events.
Key design decisions included:
The checkout flow became one of the most complex systems in the product, requiring support for multiple payment types, layered incentives, and conditional logic.
I approached this by breaking flows into atomic decision states, mapping edge cases, and collaborating closely with engineering to ensure feasibility and scalability.

Closing Reflection
Walkabout represents my transition from designing features to building products from zero. Starting with an undefined idea, I helped shape it into a live platform serving thousands of residents.
It strengthened my ability to document vision, validate quickly, collaborate deeply with founders and engineers, and scale complexity into structured systems.
Designed and built in Figma using Auto Layout, Figma Make, and Figma Sites — completed in one week.

As the first and sole designer during early stages, I was responsible for:
Translating founder vision into product requirements
Defining core user journeys and system architecture
Designing all primary flows across entire product journey
Leading design discussions to clarify evolving requirement
Creating high-fidelity prototypes for engineering handoff
I worked closely with leadership and developers to ensure every feature was feasible, testable, and aligned with long-term product goals.
0 → 1 Product Definition
Converted an undefined concept into structured requirements, phased roadmap priorities, and a clear MVP strategy.
At kickoff, the product vision was directionally strong but undefined—no finalized requirements, flows, or technical constraints. I:
Documented functional and behavioral requirements from stakeholder sessions
Defined primary user types and incentive models
Structured feature clusters into phased roadmap releases
Mapped core flows to reduce ambiguity before engineering execution
Due to aggressive timelines, we intentionally skipped low-fidelity wireframes and moved directly into high-fidelity prototypes to accelerate clarity and decision-making.
Walkabout
Walkabout is a hyperlocal community app connecting residents with local businesses and curated neighborhood events. On Walkabout people discover, host, and participate in curated local experiences. I joined at inception and partnered directly with the Founder and Co-founder to define, design, and ship the product from scratch.
I joined Walkabout at very early stage. As the first designer, led Walkabout from idea-stage ambiguity to a 17,000+ member hyperlocal community platform in San Diego.

The real problem wasn’t the absence of events — it was the absence of a cohesive system that transformed local vibrancy into consistent community participation. The challenge for Walkabout was to convert hyperlocal density into meaningful engagement:
Walkabout was rooted in highly active neighborhoods in San Diego — particularly vibrant pockets such as North Park, Little Italy and near by neighborhoods. These areas are dense with independent stores, restaurants, art spaces, pop-ups, and frequent cultural events. On the surface, the community energy was already there.

It will show the basic information about the user, it can be filled with many user related activity etc.
User can locate their neighborhood and accordingly feeds, events, places, people and loyalty program will be loaded. (it is one of the three factor that affects the contents)
Feeds are sorted into 4 different types as visible, it will load only most important, highly curated feed from social media, citizenapp, nextdoor etc.
News - Loads all the highly curated happenings, news and other information
Events - Loads all the near by events so that residents will not miss out any events
Places - Loads all the near by places to explore, famous places other residents recommends etc. this helps residents to discover nearby
People - Loads all the people in the neighborhood with at least 1 similar lifestyle match and also other residents with their basic information visible - Name, Apt No, Lifestyle & Bio

Examples:
Add in schedule, I am Going, I am interested, Take me there, Notify others, Share to my feed etc..
Notifications will be of different types which based on contents & user’s lifestyle. Some Examples are:

Action: User Register and Add in Schedule to see the status if 20 opted-in the service will be provided. (Check Zumba example)
A place is nearby and you can use points to buy some food for FREE
Action: Directly open Map and navigate.
Highly curated notifications will have personalized Title and a short description visible in the Top-Sheet until user tap on notification or go to all notifications

Eg: I am Foodie but I would love to see where are all residents going & may be I want to join some of them in a Social work Event, I can join them irrespective of my lifestyle choices.

These are basically the actiity we would like users to do inorder to ean points, Here we can target “Giving awas” to the community activities and they get bonus points.
These actions would be quickly doable but impactful
These area will load all the different kind of offers, Deals, activities etc near by neighborhood. User Earns points from every Deal.
Eg: Buy a Starbucks Cold Coffee across street today only - When you get this deal and buy Coffee you earn some points.
These area will load nearby places or options to spend their points. When you click on a specific store all the list of available deals will load for that store and it will have options to get a coupon codes or Barcode to scan at store or order online etc.

Closing Reflection
Walkabout represents my transition from designing features to building products from zero. Starting with an undefined idea, I helped shape it into a live platform serving thousands of residents.
It strengthened my ability to document vision, validate quickly, collaborate deeply with founders and engineers, and scale complexity into structured systems.
Designed and built in Figma using Auto Layout, Figma Make, and Figma Sites — completed in one week.
